Getting to 10K Unique Visitors: Getting Started

[:en]So, I’ve read a lot about how to build an audience, and I am going to apply those things to this very website. Here are the current stats:

What I Know So Far About Building an Audience

The website was made a few months before being launched for design and research purposes, but really I just goofed off and got to work beginning in December with real posts related to the brand.

I Am Starting From Zero

I don’t have an audience. I don’t have any large websites or connections with large publications. I will be building these relationships from scratch.
See, Journey Feed was made to help digital nomads with resources, tools and ideas to get them to travel, but that wasn’t always the plan.
Apparently, content has a lot to do with building an audience, but there are a many more things to consider as well.

What I Will Look At:

  • SEO, or search engine optimization, which makes a post easily found on search engines, –primarily Google. Apparently Google throws changes to its algorithm (the system it uses to sort out the relevant stuff from the not-so-relevant stuff) every once in a while and everyone scrambles to adjust their websites and fight to the death for the first page on Google. Not literally.
    • Backlinks determine the importance of a webpage, though gurus of the trade understand that a bunch of new things will be taking a more important role, like bounce rate and time spent on page. Google Analytics tells you all of this stuff. If you don’t have it linked to your website, do it, it’s free.
    • There are two types. Black hat and white hat. I don’t know who made white hats better than black ones but now the internet judges have made white hat the good kind, and black hat the bad kind. Black hat SEO means you try to spam your way in at all cost. Screw the wooooorld! Just kidding. White hat is more laid back and real: you build a reputation, people like you, Google notices, and you end up on top. Yes!
    • On-page SEO is making your website awesome when it comes to SEO. You create your links, great content, and shareable stuff that will make your website get out there into the world. Link to your own stuff, link out, do what you have to do to make your website scannable and crawlable (that’s not a word I think) by Google. You have full control of this if you manage your own website.
  • Content is an important part of building an audience. After all, you want to provide value to readers and listeners. Not just regular stuff… but great content that they can learn and take action from.
  • Content marketing strategy is a way to get your content to get known. I mean, you’ve spent hours writing a certain post and you want people to know about it, it is only natural. People go really in depth into this kind of thing, and that is precisely what I plan on doing.
  • Guest posting is another techniques you can try to get on people’s radars, it is a way to reach a broader audience and hopefully get the back to your website.
    • Writing for large publications is another way that I will be attempting to build an audience.

I understand that there a lot of other ways to build an audience, like paid advertising, but I will be focusing on the above areas for now.

Why Do I Want To Build An Audience?

Not to sound all hippie status, but I want to help as many people as possible make their dreams of travel come true. I was looking for a ton of ways I could make it work to stay on the road for as long as possible.
If you want to sell a product in the future, it is good to start an email list as it is still a great way to reach people. Not everyone will give you their email address because, like a phone number, it gives you access to them.
According to Bryan Harris from VideoFruit.com, there is a possible relationship between the size of your email list and the amount of money you could make by selling products to them. We will find out if that’s true.

My Specific Goals

  • 1,000 10,000 unique visitors by April 31st, 2016
  • Email list size: 100
  • Get one client from Journey Feed to pay me to build them a website
  • Launch a short ebook

Strategy and Resources

In order to get this going, I will be doing this with absolutely free online resources, and books and ebooks that I feel will help out with this goal. I will be using free material provided by the best of the best out there.
After over a year of learning about this material and ready a lot of material, here are the picks for the material that will guide me on creating the audience I want. I will use this material and follow it religiously.

And that’s it. No more nonsense.
Expect a weekly update here on this blog, where I will be posting real numbers and actual results. You can also get the Google Doc to see live updates as I post them by clicking here.
Some details:

  • I will be using Google Analytics to tell me the number of users and use that as my unique visitor number
  • I will be using my MailChimp account to tell me the number of email subscribers

Content Strategy Details

You can read more about this on the Google Doc, but basically my funnel to get people to my email list looks something like this:
Digital Nomad | Journey Feed
But also, I’ll be adding guest posting in the mix, so we’ll see how that goes.
Stay tuned.
What do you think about this strategy? Am I missing anything? Tell me in the comments right now![:es]He leído mucho acerca de como crear una audience, y voy a aplicar esas cosas a esta misma pagina.

No tengo nada

No tengo audiencia.

    • Backlinks determine the importance of a webpage, though gurus of the trade understand that a bunch of new things will be taking a more important role, like bounce rate and time spent on pageGoogle Analytics tells you all of this stuff.
